To explore and learn more about the history of Dripping Springs, visit the Pound House Farmstead & Museum. Joseph M. Pound and his wife, Sarah, were one of the founding families of the town and built their log cabin home in the early 1850’s. It originally served many functions including medical office, hospital, church, schoolhouse, and community gathering place. It is today open to the public to offer a glimpse of homesteader life.
Food and drink are plentiful around the town. Foodies can delight in quality dishes and beverages in a variety of forms. A good spot for breakfast is at Rolling in Thyme and Dough. It is conveniently located just off of Highway 290 in a converted house. The stuffed croissant is a local favorite. If you are a fan of craft beer, stop in at The Barber Shop for a pint. They specialize in serving house made beer from all over the state. If Texas BBQ is what you’re after, head just south of town to The Salt Lick for a heaping plate of some of the best barbecue around.
For outdoor pursuits, there are three places to explore just north of Dripping Springs proper. Hamilton Pool is the most popular destination in the area and you should plan your visit accordingly. If you don’t want to wait hours to get in, consider arriving early in the morning. Hamilton Pool is a natural grotto and home to some of the best swimming holes in the state. If you’re looking for something more peaceful, try the Westcave Preserve. Guided tours of the natural grotto and cave are offered year round. Finally, take full advantage of what the Hill Country has to offer at Milton Reimer’s Ranch. The former private homestead is now a public park that offers everything from hiking, biking, fishing, and rock climbing.
